Mystery siren in Round Hill, Virginia

The siren on top of the Round Hill VFD is hidden inside a cupola. I hear there used to be an Allertor there, but I never saw it and am assuming that the Allertor was part of DC's old system. I don't think you could fit an Allertor in a cupola, so my guess is that it is either a Model 2/3/5/7 or an S...

Loudoun County, Virginia; Siren map

Do you have any info about the Round Hill one, or any of the other ones?

Re: Oklahoma Road Trip Sirens

I'll bet you that the second Allertor's horn didn't get damaged in a storm. An F3 tornado went through there several months before I took that picture and it destroyed a big section south of town. That storm seems to be a more likely scenario for the missing horn instead of it just "falling of...

Re: Oklahoma Road Trip Sirens

Here are some of the sirens I saw while driving though Oklahoma to deliver some donations to Carney. I was really impressed to see that Carney, a town with a little over 600 people, had at least two Allertors, a Sentry, and a model 5. Here's the first Allertor on the south side of town. https://lh6...

Re: STH-10 in Chautauqua, New York

That looks to be the little HOR Siro-Drone mounted on the auto body shop in Morrisville, NY up by Syracuse, I was in Morrisville when they got a fire call and the only siren I heard was the STH-10 at the firehouse.. not so sure this little guy sounds anymore.[/quote] No it doesn't, to my knowledge. ...

What would a town be able to do if this were the case?

The town had an STH-10 for a fire siren and a 12-port Model 5/7 for a tornado siren. How would they be able to tell the difference between the fire and tornado sirens? What if they couldn't?

Why is that siren missing the bottom louver? How old is it? It must be so loud in that room with those windows right below it! Is there still a Whelen in Tremont?

Re: Which countys have ACA Allertors?

There's a "butchered" one in Menlo, KS. I also faintly recall seeing one on a trip to DC my family took when I was about 7 or 8. It was right along the interstate. I do not remember where it was, however. I know there are some dud ones around the DC area, though. The one in Philomont, Vir...

What year were Model 5s discontinued?

What about Model 5Ts? We're 5Ts discontinued before normal 5s or at the same time?

Re: How long do STH-10s last?

Three phase STH-10s are tanks, like most of the three phase Federal sirens. The single phase ones don't hold up that well, mainly because that motor is overworked on that siren and the fact that 90% of them never recieve maintenance and get brushes replaced when they wear out. Is that why 90 percen...
