Re: Help me get a Thunderbolt back on it's feet

What's the easiest way to check the chopper bearings? Take the horn off and see if the rotor will turn easily?

Help me get a Thunderbolt back on it's feet

Got the 1003 home. There was about a coffee cup full of water run out of the chopper and horn when we picked it up. It was laying on its side with the pipe downhill about 15 degrees so the water would not tend to collect. The blower was also on its side with the cover still in place. The solenoid bo...

It's broken in two at the pipe joint. The horn is lying on its side with the chopper and pipe angled downhill at about 15 degrees. The blower is also lying down on the side. The control boxes are like new though.

I hope my 1003 is that good when I get it off the top of the court house. I need to hurry the crane guy up, because the county official that gave it to me just got beat last night. Why is getting a siren so hard?

Re: Spring Thunderbolt Painting Project

Years ago I painted some outdoor lighting fixtures and faced a similar rapid fading issue. We used a Krylon spray clear plastic coating and it seemed to slow the fading. With the advancements in paint products in the last few years, I would contact a paint supply store and ask them for advice. There...

Re: Explanation of what an AF timer does

The control cabinet is the A model and the other is the RCM3. Saw the flasher in the cabinet that toggles the solenoids and thought "that seems to be the long way around the barn" but at the time of construction it was the most bulletproof method. There was a sticker on inside of one of th...

Re: Explanation of what an AF timer does

That's pretty much what I was thinking. The control box is by my best guess a mid seventies model. It looks like the one pictured on the CD museum website labelled as such. Is there a timer in the main control box? That would explain the hi and lo tones. If there is a timer the blower and rotator wi...

Explanation of what an AF timer does

I have a 1003 Thunderbolt in really good condition all things considered. Have all the siren and the two control boxes, but the timer was never used in the application. There were just two switches in a box on the wall. Have a pretty good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical so building so...
