Of the few Iowa counties I know of Guthrie County and most of central Iowa runs alert for 3 minutes every 5--10 minute for tornado warnings, towns like Bagley and Yale run their Darley and Erick siren respectively at noon and 1 PM. Finally someone makes a Central Iowa map!

I just wish Polk County never got rid of their thunderbolts, my family transported one of Johnston's Thunderbolt 1003's to Crosslake, MN in the late 90's where it sits to this day but thats about all the info i have on the old system.

Thunderbolt 1003 at the Crosslake Communications building in Crosslake, MN. We transported it there when Johnston, IA was removing their thunderbolts.

Usually because some rural fire departments dont have the money or resources to have a company put in a tall pole, plus its easier to access for matinence.
