For a Mod, it's mostly solid-state, except the compression drivers (which create the sound) and the electrolytic capacitors on the circuit boards, so it should be fine in extreme cold.

As for an EOWS*, they use analog tone generators which probably would be affected by temperature.

I can't help you with replacing the motor, but you can use a drill with the right socket to at least get some sound out of it.

Nah, I'm sure it's a Mobil Directo. If you look at the right of the siren, you can see the gearbox that drives the rotator.

The thing is that FedSig made the 2001's dB output higher is by increasing its pitch.
