Re: Eclasses replaced

Original system consisted of 5 2001’s installed around 1991. Replacing them with the eclasses was ill advised for sure. The person responsible no longer works for the town. The system failed the monthly test in June of last year. It was repaired and failed again. So they bit the bullet and decided t...

Eclasses replaced

Oak Lawn Illinois just completed a full replacement of the siren system. 6 new 2001-130’s replaced the 7 Eclasses. 5 new sirens are on existing poles. 1 was moved 20 or so feet to accommodate a cell tower. The only speaker array not directly replaced is the one on the roof of the village hall. That ...

UPS vs rectifier

What are the pros and cons of a siren running strictly off batteries with a charger and a siren running off a transformer/rectifier with battery backup? Both work fine, but one thing is if the batteries are never used, you don’t know if they’ll work during a power outage. It seems from my observatio...

Re: 2001 vs 508

True, but for asc in particular, all their mechanical sirens are around the same frequency. Yes, they have different sizes with different sound levels, but essentially sound the same. Asc really doesn’t have a 2001 equivalent. The tempest series is more akin to the 508.

2001 vs 508

I’ve always been curious why the 508 never replaced the 2001. Both are great sirens, but it seems redundant. They offer the 2001, the equinox and the 508. They are all basically in the same segment. I understand the equinox and later the 508 were built to satisfy the nuclear regulatory commissions r...

Re: Chicago Metro Area Civil Defense Siren Map

I work for the sanitary district. I’m in that building a lot. It was built in 1939. It was expanded in the 60s. But the old part that had the sirens is from 1939. It’s a cool old building, but no trace of the sirens, unfortunately.

Re: Chicago Metro Area Civil Defense Siren Map

This is great! One correction. The sanitary building is 3838 s Racine. It is actually located west of Racine Avenue at the end of Bubbly Creek. It’s a storm pumping station.

Re: Waukesha legacy system

Very cool! When I lived there, the alertronics were dual toned. I heard most of them go off over the years. Obviously the one at West was not. The eows were also dual toned but obviously used the federal tone generator so sounded a bit different. I never knew that they upgraded the tone generators, ...

Waukesha legacy system

I lived in Waukesha from 1993 to 1999. Here is some background on the old alertronic system. I remember after a tornado warning in 1998, the local newspaper ran an article on the sirens and the issues they were having. I saved the clipped article, but can’t find it now. But I copied the highlights. ...

Re: Milwaukee siren system being redone.

So are they replacing with electronic sirens? What brand? Still ASC?
