Nice find! I'm only a few miles from Leadville this week in Vail, and I'm always looking around for sirens. None found here, or in Avon, and I would have thought they'd have some sort of warning for avalanches. Been too busy to really look into it, but I'm here a couple more days, so maybe I'll hav...

Is it made out of metal? Or are those grey spots debris/mold/animal excrement on the horn?

No effects, just a cheap camera which I put it on the highest resolution setting and that reduces the image quality further.

You say these are crap photos, but in all reality, they're quite excellent. Those DSAs look to be relatively new as well. Don't see them around too often outside of Hawaii. Nice job! I was talking more about image quality, but thanks. I'm guessing these were installed in the past year or so; I'd ne...

Surprise find in the Rockies

Took a camping trip up in Leadville, CO this weekend and stumbled across a couple of DSAs in a trailer park just outside of town. Outdoor sirens in the mountains are a very rare sight, but apparently these are flood sirens due to the fact that there's an old abandoned mine nearby which fills with wa...

I thought 2001-DC was what the first generation was called until they took the black rubber ring off the end of the projector and began using the exponential cone. I am aware that there are AC and DC options, but the early sirens do have "2001-DC" on the side. Did they not offer AC models ...

Come to think of it, it would be cool in a dark grey-blue or something.

Almost every siren is yellow or grey. It would be cool to see a change.

2001DC and a dead Model 3

So, for the test today I went to Bradley Elementary, where there is a '50s Model 3 on the roof and a less old 2001DC. I was really hoping both would sound, but sadly only the 2001 went off so I focused the camera on it until the test ended. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=399Y8KxUDBM Because of this,...

Definitely raspier and more intense than most sirens. Still, I think 2001s at any pitch have the best-sounding windup of any siren.
