My house is located nearly 500-1000 feet away from a siren. I will admit that my family and I were upset when the siren was first installed, but the siren being installed there got me into the hobby. I just love images like these. Gives you a feel for what it would have been like back in the day and it's just great. Awesome to be able to see one when it was up there.
