Re: Lisco, NE mystery siren

Broadwater and Sunol Nebraska have 7v8-H-Bs as well, it could've been a regional EM thing. If that's the case, im surprised they arent Whelens! That seems likely that they just spread out their system. It's like Grand Island, Where they have sirens in their system that are in different towns. Also,...

Re: Thunderbolt Blower Locked UP

So this is what the inside of the blower looks like. Has it been exposed to freezing conditions while the interior was submerged? If so, it's probably unfortunately trashed. Water will find its way inside of the hollow lobes and freeze/split them apart. Judging by the amount of rust it's had a lot ...

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

Then what is their excuse? those are like the easiest sirens to maintain! and they are also very reliable. The cost and the effectiveness of the system, as I clearly outlined in my above replies. Pardon me, only saw that after I posted, but how would labor be that expensive, and I think Federal Sig...

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

Sorry if I’m going off topic, but what type of sirens are they? 2001-SRNBs, 2001-130s, and 3 Modulators. Then what is their excuse? those are like the easiest sirens to maintain! and they are also very reliable. The cost and the effectiveness of the system, as I clearly outlined in my above replies.

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

Yeah, I can understand decommissioning older sirens like thunderbolts since they require oil and belt changes, but something as new as modulators and 2001's is pretty silly. Of course this is the nuclear industry which has a history of sillyness. There's a video on YouTube of the first test of the ...

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

This isn't very surprising to me as the NRC allows alternate methods of warning other than outdoor sirens. Let's do some quick math. 109 sirens in the VC Summer EPZ 109 x 4 batteries at each siren site = 436 batteries If you figure about $100 a battery, that's $43,600 every 3 years or so to replace ...

Re: Beaufort county, SC (Hilton Head island) new mystery sirens

That news article and vote occurred in April when many municipalities and cities that rely on sales tax/tourism revenue began to crack down on expenses that were not vital due to the fear that revenue would be well below normal this year. It didn't turn out that way in many places but I myself had s...
