Re: I bought a Siratrol box!

OK. If you are really serious about working on this unit, the first thing you should do is pull down the PDF of the Siratrol manual and read it over so you can get a sense of what the equipment can do as you have it. According to the book (found it in about 2 mins with a Google search), the receiver...

Plectron station alert & siren control system

Hey all... Don't know if anyone else here has any of these, but I won a small sale in CT last month and picked up two complete wall-mount fire station alerting packages made in the 1970's by Plectron. This includes two alerting receivers (these are both low band) with separate tone sets for station ...

Re: I bought a Siratrol box!

Yep, according to the nameplate from the EBAY item that's a low-band unit. You're not going to get that receiver to UHF without a forklift upgrade. You are limited to probably a small band segment (probably 42-50 MHZ) with that receiver board. If you DID want to change frequencies within the capabil...

Re: Anyone in Florida need a siren

I thought it was a Model 5 but wasn't 100% sure. Also sorry for the two posts, the system locked up when I was posting and it looks like it took it twice. Grrrr....

Anyone in Florida need a siren

George Gideon auctioneers is running this old fire station siren from somewhere in Volusia County on their on-line auction, sale ends Monday. It's dual-tone, Federal Model 5 perhaps? Or it might be a Model 2, can't really tell the height completely from the pics.... Just saw it and knew this was a s...

Re: Alfred State College, what in the world???

Someone at that college has an interesting sense of humor. It's a tad long and slow on length and rep. rate, but it's the same tone that was used for the "evacuation warning" for Moonbase Alpha on the 1970's British SCI-FI show "Space 1999"! (at 1:57 into the video) http://www.yo...

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

Is this the one they are using for a burglar alarm? Yep. The transmitter site sits a long way out from any residences, and being it covers multiple acres the field proper is hard to secure. The siren audio does go far enough to make it to the fire station down the road, and that's all you need.... :)

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

Here's one for you. This siren is located at a high power radio transmitter site west of Cocoa, Florida. I didn't get a good shot of the transmitter antenna field itself, but there are multiple transmitting facilities here with power up to 50,000 watts. Get into the wrong spot and you could get a re...

Re: Topeka, KS siren system 1966

Wow, it's a small world. Family on my father's side is from Topeka, in fact I still have the special edition of the Topeka Daily Capital (now the Capital-Journal) from June 9, 1966 after Topeka took that nasty tornado right through the center of the city. My grandfather was Arthur "Scoop" ...

Some submarines used DC for their diving alarm horns. When you hit the contact maker to sound the alarm, multiple contacts were activated. One set went to the IC switchboard to activate the manual horns, another went to the Battle Announcing system and activated an oscillator over the 1MC that sound...
