Re: Dutch Flat, CA - What is this?

I saw it in person and it is most definitely not an STL. I've been a siren enthusiast for like twelve years; I know what an STL looks like, haha. When I have time I'm probably going to either call or email the museum to see if they have any information on it. If it is a foreign siren, I'd be very in...

Dutch Flat, CA - What is this?

I'm not very fond of my current job, but one neat thing about it is that I get to travel all over the country to do field work. Often to very remote locations. One such place was Dutch Flat, CA about a week ago. In the middle of town there was a siren. Now I've been a siren enthusiast for over a dec...

Re: The Official NC Siren Map (BIG update 7/25/2021)

So it looks like UNC Charlotte (where ya boy graduated from) has replaced their Whelens with those Hormann/Cooper WAVES/whatever-they-are-called arrays. I didn't get a close look or take any pictures, but here's a very short article that talks about it.

Re: Sterling Identification Help

It may be an old thread, but I am in fact still around, haha. At least every now and then. Yeah there was a time when I was obsessed with making sure every siren on my map was named absolutely correctly, but as I got older I stopped caring, haha. I think I just left them as Model M and Model Y. Whic...

Re: New York Statewide Siren Map

I actually used to date a girl who went to Ithaca College. Never noticed any sirens, but it's possible that they just have a PA system. Broome County Community College does that; they have four big speakers, one on each corner of the library building. I did see the Whelens at Cornell though. They ar...

Re: Finally: Good pics of the Gamewell Codewell (Cosgrave) Siren in Jerome, AZ

Awesome! I didn't know these were sold under Gamewell. They typically made horns, didn't they? So this unit is decommissioned now? It looks like it. I seem to remember hearing fairly recently that it would go off every day at noon. Was hoping someone would get a recording of it, but it might be too ...

Re: Siren Decibel Ratings List

Wow, I forgot about making this. Cool to see people still come back to it though. The Darley Model 5 would be pretty much the same as the Federal Model 5. The only thing that's different is the housing. It is possible that some of the Darleys are a little quieter due to the vents in the housing bein...

Re: Sterling Siren Fire Alarm, Rochester NY

K5? Looks kinda small. I was thinking more like K2 or something. How many different sizes did they make? I'd love to have some more information on Sterling, as there doesn't seem to be as much out there as other companies. For example, I just found out that the siren that people have been calling th...

Re: 500 SH-TT and Chrysler sounding off at the 2019 Great Los Angeles Air Raid Reenactment of 1942

Wow that's crazy. There's only like one or two other videos I can think of where one of these runs full speed. Actually, this one doesn't sound like it quite hit its peak, but it's still going way faster than Chryslers in other videos where they just basically growl them. Must have been one heck of ...

Re: Siren photos from the Oregon and northern California coast (large photos!)

I don't remember seeing this thread when it was first posted, cool. The west coast certainly has it's fair share of interesting sirens. I agree that the paint can siren is not an HOR. I only know of like three different HOR models (though each one has several variations), and none of them are anythi...
