If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that there is an STH 10 on Main Road at the west side of Southold's district. I'll check the next time I drive through Southold. I'm in Center Moriches, so it's not too far away.
Even with the horns, this siren is not very loud. It sounds very similar to a Model 2 in terms of volume. As I've posted elsewhere, one of our local departments traded in their STH 10 for the Eclipse 8. There is simply no comparison.
Yeah... nothin' beats the sound/tones of the old Interceptor. I made my "bones" in EMS using it back in the 1970's. The new tones sound more "sterile" to me-- the Interceptor PA20 had class (even at 58W with no air horn).
I prefer these to the Q2B. Me too! It is interesting to note the difference in sound between the S8 and the Super Chief. The S8 is lower and more throatier, the Super Chief is a little more nasal sounding. IMHO, either one beats the sound of the Q. I miss hearing the sound of the old LAFD or LACoFD...
It seems like the Eclipse is about the same as a Model 5 in terms of output, but it sounds more like a Model 2 and doesn't seem to compare with the STH-10 that it replaced. Keep the 3T22, but replace the motor. These are the best-sounding American-made sirens out there. There is a new Eclipse in ou...
When I lived in Los Angeles (1966-1971) we had one of those down the block. Of course, I was a kid and not into sirens at the time, but on the control box it said "Scream Master". I'm not sure if that were a brand or a model name, but I remember as a kid that whenever it went off all of th...
The picture is of East Moriches Fire Department in Suffolk County, NY. Some of you may remember the community-- it was off of East Moriches that TWA Flight 800 crashed in 1996. It's the community where I work. I was excited when I first saw it, but after hearing it a couple of times I have to say I ...
Speaking of Ohio, When I lived in Zanesville, Ohio (1984-1985) the Fire Department had the ability to turn all of the lights downtown on "Flash" (Red E/W and Yellow N/S) in the ENTIRE CITY all at once. There had to be over a dozen lights that would flash. This was done with a circuit at Fi...
