Re: STH-10A 3 phase

Were you using a rotary phase converter or a static converter? Static is just a box, the rotary has a motor with it. You are NOT going to be able to start a siren with a static converter due to the parasitic load on the motor. The chopper is just too heavy. You will need a rotary converter to do th...

Re: the "carolina fire siren" build saga

4800 RPM and a printed chopper. What diameter are you looking at for the chopper? If it's small (< 4 inches) you should be fine. If you are thinking a 10 or 12 inch chopper, the centrifugal force on the chopper may well blow it apart at speed. Please video it for it's first spin ups.... watching it ...

Re: outdoor warning siren installers

Hmm, do you have a CDL? Are you over 21?? Do you have any training as a commercial electrician? Can you separate your siren hobby from your job? If you can't honestly answer YES to EVERY one of these questions, you have work to do. Once you CAN answer YES to ALL these questions, you might have a sho...

Re: Model five help/questions

You do NOT need to remove the key to remove the chopper. The chopper should slide off the shaft with the key in place. I believe there are threaded holes in the chopper to pull it off. You should take a thick piece of metal and drill three holes in it. One in the middle over the shaft and one over e...

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

When those ESC-2030 logic boards have ribbon cable issues it often will activate the Hi-Low tone on and off until the issue is rectified, it sounds like the malfunctioning unit in Dublin had a faulty ribbon cable. Yes, that is the most common failure mode for those units. This would include ALL sir...

Re: Anybody recognize this FS&S STH-10B?

YOu will need to lift the springs off the posts with some needle nose pliers. Try to either get a hold on them close to the post, or reach through the service windows and lift them up if you are leaving the housings in the bottom of the motor. The housings can be removed but make sure you mark EXACT...

Re: Question for siren owners

Good question and you need to carefully consider the possible consequences for doing it wrong. First off, sounding a siren that is NOT part of a jurisdictional warning system (government owned) could get you charged with inducing panic and jailed. They may just come and scream at you for a while, or...

Re: Can my AR timer replace the old timer?

Yes it's possible. What is also possible is to build a 2 tone timer out of some time delay relays. This would keep your old AR timer in your hands and allow the siren to function however you wanted it to based on the wiring and number of relays. How to. So the first relay is the 3 minute relay. This...
