The thing is, there was no other siren there before the 2001.
Good catch - that is an interesting way to mount a 2001 from the start. I wonder if they had other plans to consider a siren mount like that...

Re: Uniquely Mounted Sirens Thread

That is a cell tower. Yes, that's extremely cursed! Apparently someone appreciated the old Sirex enough to put it on a structure built for a form of personal communication that was only a dream at the time it was manufactured 8-) Saw this 2001-SRNB in Albemarle, NC, I thought is was a bit weird for...

By the fancy bushes and all around it, i think this is a display.
Maybe my wife will let me put my Model 5 in the flower bed surrounded by decorative shrubbery :D

Wouldn’t that be a bit loud?
I think that's the point for both use cases :P

I think the OP had an interesting question. I hadn't really thought about the use of sirens before the world wars.

I can hear the town FD's STH-10 from about 4.5 miles away across hills and trees.

Re: Repainting/Restoring sirens - Questions

For cleaning and painting, I'd completely disassemble the siren as far as I could, clean out the gunk with dish soap and hot water and let it dry. Use a wire brush to clean off any loose paint, primer, and rust, and repaint. I've been enjoying using Krylon Fusion spray paint for my vehicles as it's ...

Re: Miscellaneous Siren Photos Thread

I'm always amazed to see sirens kludged together like that. I guess I'm fortunate to live somewhere that has funding available to repair or replace broken sirens.

Re: Chrysler in New Zealand

The use of the Chevy engine was probably due to availability of the engine and replacement parts, cost etc. etc. If I ever get my hands on an engine-less Chrysler siren , its going to end up being Ford powered because that's what I know best. Now all I can think about is doing an LS swap for a dead...
