Re: Siren Mystery

It has to do with the tone groups and the receiver / decoder on the siren. If your county uses tone groups properly, the first tone is the same on a number of houses and the second tone is the specific house. So what is happening is the siren hears the first tone and it matches, the second tone is w...

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

The one near campus isn't there?? If anyone knows of old T-Bolt or other siren locations I'm still interested in putting a map together of the Franklin County CD system prior to the Whelens being installed in the early '80s. I have about 25 locations mostly westside and northside. Which one?? there...

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

I get it The NRC exists for a reason, and I live in a state with Davis Besse, The powerplant that holds the record for largest fine ever imposed by the NRC, and whose owners (First energy) have had recurring involvement with the justice department- Twice, once in 2020 for Public corruption charges ...

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

While you do make some good points, keep in mind the NRC recommends multiple forms of warning (including sirens) and not everyone can check their phones at work. I'm a welder, my neighbor is a judge, my aunt is a nurse and most people aren't on the line 24/7. When I wrecked my truck, I called my pa...

Did Franklin County test 3 times today? Or am I on something. Could've sworn I heard the two analogs in Canal go off more than twice.
Are the sirens in Canal part of Franklin, or are they part of Fairfield??

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

I guess I am sort of curious about why a bunch of guys that are not in the business and for the most part don't live in that area are second guessing the decision to decommission a system. Yeah, sirens are cool and all, but I have no doubt that they have their reasons for pulling the plug. And the o...

Re: Overdrive pulley for thunderbolt Blower: would it work?

You need to be careful with doing this and if you are considering it, you need to be reasonable with the change. Those roots blowers were designed and balanced for a certain RPM range. A blower on a car / truck engine was designed to be run at a varying rate as the engine was sped up and slowed down...

Re: How do I get a siren off the pole?

This is NOT something you can do by yourself. It's simply not possible. You will need a pole truck with enough capacity to carry the siren and the pole safely to the ground. And you need to be sure that you can take the pole. It the pole needs to remain in place, you will need a crane and a bucket t...

Re: Advice For Newer Enthusiasts?

I think that in lite of some recent events that something else should be mentioned here. If you are new to sirens (or anything else for that matter) and are wanting to learn about the topic listen to what others have to say. And if you are unsure of something, ask. One of those famous astrophysicist...
