Re: Eau Claire Wisconsin to Add 3 new Sirens

I think they should look into Eclipse 8's. They only have one motor to worry about and are omnidirectional. They would really get people's attention in Attack. Very true! Nashville system is 70+ Eclipse 8 sirens along with some 508s. My house is between two of the Eclipse sirens, and I must say the...

Re: What do sirens in your area warn of?

Nashville sounds the sirens whenever a tornado warning is issued for Davidson County. The sirens sound in "attack" mode for 3 minutes when the warning is given. They are activated every 8 minutes throughout duration of the warning. Regular test is first Saturday of month at noon; one minut...

Re: Upson County Thunderbolt #3 installation (updated 4/11)

Another Tbolt looking sharp and ready for a new lease on life.

It's great that they're being put back in service instead of rusting away on a scrap heap.

I've said many times that a Tbolt's sound(especially in "attack") means "something bad is about to happen!"

Re: Sedgwick county kansas goes with ATI.

The San Francisco ATIs have been mentioned here. I thought about something related to them. If I understand correctly, they play recordings of the old STL-10s. Even though the STL-10s are no longer made, I wonder if Federal could've gone after them for patent infringement, etc. Many of the S.F. ATIs...

Re: Atlanta, GA siren hunt

Brendan..I believe there was a roof mounted one in DeKalb, but think it was in or close to downtown Decatur. Can't recall the location because it's been a LONG time since I saw it, but I do recall seeing it a time or two.

Re: Atlanta, GA siren hunt

The Emory Tbolt was pole mounted like the other DeKalb ones.

I recall seeing it several times.

Re: Atlanta, GA siren hunt

Nice photos. I lived in the Atlanta area from 1971-89(Cobb County). However, I was on the Emory campus a number of times. There was a Tbolt on the campus back then; it was just off Clifton Rd. if I remember correctly. It would've been removed when DeKalb dismantled its system of Tbolts and sold them...

Re: Prison siren systems?

A bit off topic here, but since Alcatraz has been discussed I'll mention it. I visited Alcatraz during a trip to San Francisco during summer of 2011. The tour is well worth the price; I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the area. However, it's advisable to book tour date and get ticket on line a cou...

Re: Nashville Siren Ambience 2/20/2014

The echo is without a doubt sinister, along with that slow windup.
The long windup certainly catches one's attention!

Much better than the sudden "on" high pitched squeal we used to hear.
