I have a map of the original STL-10 locations in the city. I found 4 total when I lived there 2004-2008 (before I had all the locations !), including the one visible from US 40 / I-64. I don't know if the other 3 are still up 10 years later now. One was in 2004 when I walked Lindell Blvd from Wash U...
I haven't been on in a while, but I'm happy you were able to get that siren. Here is a pic of it when it was still mounted back in 2004 =)
Where in FL are you located?
St Pete had an old I believe model 5 / Model 2 system from WW II. I have a list of those locations and they are all gone for sure. They then installed a T-Bolt system. I have a list of all those locations and they are all gone, except for the downtown one. The Pinellas jail siren was done separately...
Crystal River nuclear power plant in Florida had 3 Hurricanes as their original warning system for the community before they put sirens throughout the whole 10-mile EPZ.
It changes when they test, but they do publish it ahead of time. It's generally twice a year. Just search for siren test at fau.edu when your trip is closer.
I'm definitely the guy to know =) All the counties used to be loaded with sirens, very few remain. Almost every city had either fire, civil defense, or combination sirens or siren systems. Dade never really had VFDs in the unincorporated areas (has been county fire for a long time) Broward had many ...
The backup battery will keep the clock's time if there's a power outage. I still have to remind myself to change it twice a year with daylight saving time. We do have a standby whole-house generator. Not that the noon siren is on the priority list that high though! Ian, I looked into using a time-on...
I know I haven't been on her much lately, but thought I'd share the new setup I have for the 2T. I had an old timer that was kind of crappy rigged together with an Altronix timer, 12V car relay, small power supply, and a backup 12V lead acid battery. It was plugged in with an extension cord with wir...
The system was installed in the early/mid 1950s. I don't believe that 2T22s were out yet, though they may have been. In a city setup like New Orleans that has a central business district and a gridded system of solid urban low-story neighborhoods, they're going to have much better indoor and outdoor...
