Re: How do I get a siren off the pole?

Your best bet is to take the siren off in parts. Start with the horn and rotator, then blower pipe then blower itself. You're going to need a crane/boom/cherry picker with the appropriate weight capacity. Thunderbolts weight about 1000LBS all together, heard horn and rotator assembly is 300. If you ...

Re: Cincinnati Metropolitan Area Sirens

Does anyone know if the Kenwood Country Club tests their T121? They used to have a Whelen hornet at one point.

Re: Cincinnati Metropolitan Area Sirens

Either I'm having auditory hallucinations or I heard something at noon. I was inside my house in sharonville but I heard at least a minute of alert. Is it possible that one of the industries in sharonville (I.E. the ford plant, General mills, or GE aviation) have a private siren?

Re: List of very rare sirens

Can we count the Werden B115 and P127? There's only 1 115 in existence and to my knowledge all (?3?) P127's live in Ohio. While they are similar to the Banshee and Penetrator they were produced by Werden instead of ACA (similar to Darley and Federal Signal) Also Custer Electric sirens are far and fe...

Re: South-End Toledo Sirex?

At the intersection of section road and summit road are a series of vacant buildings, and one had an SD10 on it at one point. Not sure if its still there as construction was going on near there before Covid 19. Coordinates for vacant building with siren: 39°11'51.2"N 84°28'13.3"W Here's th...

Re: South-End Toledo Sirex?

A similar situation happened in Cincinnati with the old Hudephol brewery. There is/was a Thunderbolt on the building that ceased functioning when the building was abandoned due to no power. I've also seen an SD10 in the same bucket in Cincinnati on a warehouse. Your sirex is probably unused, and mig...

Re: University Speakers Company

Here's something I found on the old Control booth forums The University Loudspeaker Company was formed in New York in 1936 and was going by University Sound in 1959 when it, along with Altec Lansing, were acquired by Ling Electronics (LTV). In 1963 University moved to Oklahoma where in 1983 it was j...

Repowered siren List

This a topic listing and discussing repowered sirens. Repowering refers to rebuilding a piece of equipment (such as a siren) with a different engine/motor/controller. One such example is the repowered Federal Electric Type B at Shandon Ohio. (credit to 4j25). Note the new motor mounted in the box ne...
