Topeka 500AT Finally recorded!

Mon Jun 25, 2007 5:53 pm

Well it wasn't the one i was wanting to record, i can't find a location to record that one but i decided to go record the other one. In the beginning it seems to be having rotational problems and then straightens up. Toward the end when its winding down, i don't know if you can tell but the horn was blowing back and forth a little bit in the wind. Hope you enjoy!

Great video! This is the best sounding rotating siren ever produced. Too bad the 2001 wasn't built as a dual tone.

It would be very difficult to design the 2001 as a dual-tone siren. It would require a complete redesign of the horn diffuser assembly. It is already a very complex siren; I'd imagine they wouldn't want to make it any more complex.

n the beginning it seems to be having rotational problems and then straightens up.
I'm guessing the rotator drive is actually taken off of the chopper motor. thus, initially the rotation speed is slow until it comes up to full speed- and notice the rotation slows as the siren winds down. AFAIK the ASC T-128 is the same way.

I should have been more specific, from about :23 to :29 it isn't rotating and is staying in the same place, after it had been rotating. Is that normal?
