ACA Alertronic 6000R Oak Ridge, TN

Fri Aug 03, 2018 8:15 pm

I went up to Oak Ridge for the day with 4j25, airplanedude, Josh555, and LeadColliamtor to record the Oak Ridge, TN warning sirens and despite the rain, we were able to finally catch a successful recording! These sirens are part of the East Tennessee Technology Park siren system and serve the area surrounding the former K-25 gaseous diffusion plant in case of nuclear emergencies. The sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of the month at 11:00 AM in alert and the system consists of Alertronic 6000Rs and a single, non functional Alertronic 7200. Many of the sirens have fallen in to disrepair, however this siren was still functioning and after three attempts on my part, we found a siren that worked and that was being tested today. You can hear some other Alertronics occasionally along with some background noise (my apologies) however these sirens surprised me. The none was not only fairly potent, but it carries a very long way. If you are ever able to see one of these tests, I would highly recommend it since these sirens will most likely not be around much longer. Here is the video and thanks tor watching:

Man, this sounds cooler than the one on Roling Meadows; that wind down is super eerie!

The wind down is rather eerie! It surprised me how long it took to wind down, it was really cool to hear in person with all the echoes. The whole setting was rather eerie in the rain and to know that if these ever went off for real it wouldn't be for a tornado, but for a nuclear disaster.

Based on the wind up and the frequency hit, this sounds to me like a single tone version of that older ACA controller that is on the Rolling Meadows siren.

Absolutely fantastic video and what a neat siren to get a recording of.

That's gotta be one of the most epic wind-downs for sirens I've ever heard!!!
