Finally had the opportunity to record a T-121 in the Salem-Hope Creek system.
This is the third quarterly test of 2019 for this system, taking place as scheduled at 7:20 PM on July 9, 2019. The siren I had chosen to record during the test was siren 208, which is a T-121 located at the intersection of Main Street and New Street in Middletown, Delaware.
The Salem and Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Station has 37 T-121s located on the Delaware side of the EPZ, and another 34 in New Jersey. These replaced an old system consisting of P-10s and Banshees. The sirens are operated by the power plant, as well as Delaware Emergency Management. This is also the system which has the infamous owl mounted on top of each siren.
Salem and Hope Creek tests their system on the second Tuesday of each quarter of the year, either at 10:45 AM, or in this case, 7:20 PM. Sirens sound in 3 to 5 minutes of alert for testing and emergencies at the plant.
