Third St. Bridge siren in San Francisco

Thu Dec 05, 2019 5:19 pm

This bridge was constructed in the 1930’s and while the lift siren sounds like an STL-10, could it possibly be a six-port Bullard?

Wow, he's having a lot of fun with the siren. As far as I can see on Street View, there is a Model D at eye level on the north end of the bridge, a Model A on the south end (both mounted to street light poles), an ATI on a pole on the south end of the bridge, as well as a couple of large speakers on the operators tower. No sign of the STL10, although it does sound somewhat muffled

Where is the siren exactly? I looked around in street view taken in 2013 and saw the ATI speaker array (definitely not it) and the Models A and D (probably the high-pitched sound at the beginning of the video) but I couldn't find any others. It definitely sounds like an STL-10 to me though.
Architecture preservationist. I enjoy obscure history and mapping things, and grew up around sirens. Not planning to own one.

It's a Bullard. I remember someone posted a picture of it a while ago, and I can't find it.

I love how they use the classic "Train crossing bells" during the bridge lifting & dropping. And I like the siren usage too! I know one is used to warn people & vehicles that the bridge is about to lift, and another is used while the bridge is lifting & dropping. Neat video!!!

If that is the siren sounding, which I bet it is, that is absolutely amazing. Like Tristan suggested, appears to be a Bullard. The first recording of a Bullard, other than the news clip featuring the high pitch rotating one going off.
I own: One complete SiraTone, another SiraTone control module, a 1600W MC, 2 old ATI controllers, 2 round ATI horns with drivers, a ATI-DSA 4 thing, a Federal Signal FC, AR timer and Siratrol, and a small CD&F.

Here's another video with the camera pointing toward the Bullard:
