Bellefontaine, Ohio mystery siren

Sun Mar 30, 2008 4:14 am

The guy who posted this on YouTube is not sure what model it is. It sounds sort of like a 2001 with a broken rotator, but the wind-up is different, and the siren is not as loud as a 2001. I don't think it's a Federal Model 5 either, but it could be an underpowered Model 7. Can anyone identify this siren?

Sounds lower and the wind-up slower than 2001, but there is that distinctive low-tone of the 2001...

No way a 2001, I would say a sentry 40V2t or a similar model.

Sounds like an older Federal Model 3 or even a Model 5. I am thinking that it has a single-phase motor, as the windup is very slow. Cool sounding siren.

Just throwing a theory out there, until someone gets clarification.

To me, it sounds remarkably like a Federal Signal 2001. Which means it's possible that it's a Federal Signal Model 2. Since the siren is in the church's steeple, it's possible that it's running off the churches power source which doesn't have a high amperage rating. This will give the siren a slow wind-up and it may not let it reach it's optimum RPM resulting in a slightly lower tone.

Sound's pretty 3-ish to me. Maybe an M siren.

Yea, you can definitely tell its a model 3 (or slow 5). There's no doubt about it. There's no way it could be a 2001 and it's for sure not a 40V2T.
