Is this a siren?

Sat May 27, 2006 3:28 am

I saw this siren some time back in North Vancouver, I read that in The Greater Vancouver Area there were, in fact, air raid sirens at one point.

Is this an air raid siren(or housing)? Or is it something else?

Yeah, I know it looks like a cartoon drawing, it's just my style, I didn't have a photo ^_^;

I put the person there for scale ^_^;;

And you're right, it does look like the periscope from yellow submarine :shock:

I guess I'll have to try and search for it and get a photo of that if I don't want to cause confusion :oops:

I wouldn't call something with such a wide tube a fog horn. Imagine all the juice you'd need to pump into it. I'm thinking it is a compressed-air siren of some sort.

I know it's cartoonish ;__; I'm a cartoonist, that's the best I can do ^^; I'd have to go back to the thing with a drawing pad or a camera to get a good picture of it o_o and frankly, I'm trying to track down it's whereabouts right now o.o And Foghorn is a good guess, but it's in a middle of a city basically, so I can't see it being used for that anymore ^^;

Hmm, that's a good point, I'll probably ask the Chamber of Commerce or something about that ^^;

I'm afraid not, it looks kind of like a giant periscope with a grille the bell ^-^; I have a little cartoony sketch of it in the first post ^_^;

Because it looks like it has a very low end frequency, I think it might be used as an industrial signal.
I think it might be related to the monster shown below.

Though not even close in proportions, I think the same basic principle applies.
