Prison siren systems?

Wed Mar 12, 2014 12:40 am

I know there are some STH-10s in a prison in Arizona, and there had to be some on Alcatraz...

The Limestone County Correctional Facility has an ATI or E-class siren in front of it next to a Whelen 3016 that's mounted absurdly high.
There's also a jail in south Alabama with a Master Blaster siren at it.

I know it's not a prison but there's a mental health hospital over in the next county from me with a 3t22 and a model 5.

I was driving to college the other day and I noticed that the Prison out here in Centralia has a 2T22 on it.

Most Oregon prisons have no sirens or external alarms. The Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem has a Darley Model 5 on the roof over the main entrance, and nearby Santiam Correctional Facility has a Federal Model 5 on a tower over the physical plant, but these are never used.

Here in Pa the Albion Prison has an STH-10, Rockview State Pen has a Model 5, as far as mental health facilities the Wernersville State Hospital had a Diaphone that was used for escape and also as a fire call alert. I do have a mystery siren on my hands though, at the Hartsville, Pa Fire Department there is a Whelen 2000-R that was supposedly part of a mental health facility escape siren system. I used to do mental health transports and have never been to a place around the Hartsville area and I can't find any mention of such a place in that area so I have no idea what facility it was for. They also have a Model 5 that they use for a fire siren, the 2000-R is mounted on the same pole as the Model 5.

You can see the Model 5 and (barely) the 2000-R in this streetview of the firehouse (you have to zoom in to see it):

I visited Alcatraz during the summer of 2011. Didn't see any sirens on the place. I feel sure they had some at one time.
