Can Someone Decipher These Sirens? (Russellville, AR)

Wed Aug 26, 2015 9:12 pm

Hi siren people,

Can anyone identify the sirens in these videos from Russellville, Arkansas? I've heard that Russellville has ATIs but the sirens in these videos don't sound like ATIs. I feel like there could be some lower tone mechanical sirens mix.

Thanks

I checked many fire departments surrounding the area, but found no sirens.

They are ATI's, found one on Google Earth.

Do you think they're using a custom tone? In the first video at 2:35 you can hear a very natural sounding wind down. I don't know a lot about ATI, but I was under the impression that ATIs don't have a wind up or wind down.

They have a mix ATIs and Whelen sirens from the looks of it. Just did a quick search and came up with 2 HPSS32s and a 2807. Not too sure on what else they have, but the long wind down of the one in the first video and they way it peaks around 470 Hz is a giveaway to an older Whelen. Maybe some of their 2800 series have analog controllers. The ATIs there have newer panels and probably peak at 575 Hz, but then again their controllers are able to perform custom tones.

Russellville, and Dardanelle both are using a mixture of ATI's and Whelen 2900 series sirens. They run in 445Hz, 465Hz and 560Hz (or whatever the Hz ratings run in). I have heard 1 ATI, and it was by Stoby's in Russellville, and it ran in 465Hz. It had a wind up, but it cut off on the wind down. (Some of the Whelens do that there too, so they might be programed for the full 3 minutes and the nuclear plant who sets them off sends the cancel command.)

They test every Wednesday at noon, in alert for 1 minute if I am not mistaken. I plan on making a map of all of the sirens soon for everyone too.

I know this is a little late but Russellville and Dardanelle replaced their ATI sirens with Whelen WPS-2907's within the last two years. Pope County also has a town (Atkins) with a handful of Thunderbolt 1000's as well.

The ATI's are part of the Arkansas Nuclear One system. I haven't found any info on Russellville, but I have seen a couple ATI's and 2800's around town in 2013. The Atkins Thunderbolts are from ANO's old system.
