EOWS 816 or 812?

Tue Aug 21, 2018 8:15 pm

I see lots of people calling the siren either the 816 or the 812 and I was wondering which one it is. I heard something about the bottom 2 speakers have 2 drivers and the rest have 1 and it's called the 812 and I've also heard all of them having 2 drivers and it's called the 816. Does anyone know about this?

812 is right. The SiraTone cabinet only ever supported a max of 1200 watts of audio output.

Further proof: http://www.jmarcoz.com/sirens/sc19.pdf

That page makes it clear the EOWS-115 and 812 use the came cabinet (whereas it indicates the 408 using one that only has 4 amps). Thus, the 812 designation is correct.

The Wiki page has a lot of information about EOWS.

Wow that's strange but cool. What was even the purpose of making the 812?

I believe Federal just wanted to take the 408 and stack 2 of them to make a big one to save them the time of designing a smaller unit and/or reworking the SiraTone controller to support 1600W for an 816 model. It clearly didn't do well and the 612 clobbered it in sales and performance from what I can tell. I believe the 408 even sold more than the 812 did.
