when they say third signal, they could just mean a fast wail signal. I do not see a damper fitting anywhere on there without hampering sound output.

Id imagine you can put the damper directly onto the stator.

Isnt that the point?

No what I meant is that I cannot see a damper fitting answer without hampering sound output when the sirens doing normal signals.

An open damper wouldn't affect sound output regardless of where it was positioned

I read somewhere that the motor itself freezes up to create the pulse signal. Is this true?

Depends if they made one durable enough for it. Plus it wouldn't be a pulse signal and if the rotor went from ~3000RPM to 0 in a short time the torque involved would probably shake the thing apart given time and signal duration.

There once existed a recording of either an Allertor or Banshee doing this "yelp" signal. From what I understand this was accomplished by changing the polarity of the motor leads to electrically "brake" the motor. I don't know how many units were ordered with that capability, but it would seem this would damage the motor over time.

That's how I thought the motor would've been braked. Some of the local fire departments near me had Cyclones with this feature.

Cyclones had a damper for third signal. This is unless those ACA promotional VHSs aren't giving the full picture.

IIRC Doerr made special motors intended for this yelping signal, that polarity revarsal thing was dropped when ACA started using Baldor motors
