Whelen Omnialerts At the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnel

Mon Dec 10, 2018 5:44 pm

We were driving to a ski resort in Colorado and I noticed a Whelen Omnialert. When we were driving back from the resort it was very congested on the highway so I managed to get these pictures, the Omnialert on the top of the pole is on the East side of the tunnel and the one on the unique pole that sprouts from the side of a sign is on the West side. there is also a Model 2 hidden in one of the pictures I didn't know was there until I was reviewing the photos.

Last time I went through the tunnel back in 2015 there was a Model 2 on the west end also.

Wow, I went through that tunnel in July 2017 when I visited Colorado.
I never noticed any sirens; they must really blend in!

I imagine these units are used for notification regarding the tunnel?

I think those are to warn a truck if it's too tall to go through the tunnel. Looks like the 2s have been replaced by the OmniAlerts!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to see the 2 on the West side because of the heavy traffic I was in. And to be honest, I did not even notice the Model 2 on the East side until I was looking through my pictures. If I go back to the tunnel and remember, I'll try to get a good picture of the 2 on the West side and I'll post it.

The Model 2 on the west side is no longer there.

Huh, interesting. I wonder why the one on the East side hasn't been taken down yet.
