Plano replacing all Whelen 4008

Wed Feb 06, 2019 10:33 pm

Soooo. I was driving home from school today when I look up to see that the 4008 that is usually there has been replaced with a 2810. So, turns out all of Plano's 4008's will be replaced by February 8, 2019.
I usually know how to spell.

Plano WPS-4008 Removal Spree

Alrighty then, three years have past with no update on the 4008 replacements. I assumed the 4008s were safe and sound. Nope! They’re gone! Here is a brief picture montage I have of the removal of #15 off of Denham Way adjacent to Robinson Middle School and Carpenter Park.

What are they replacing the 4008s with?
Just your average 14 year old Siren kid from O'Fallon. Living in a town with a mix of sirens.

2910s. They directly stuck the 2910s on the used pole of the 4008s. Some are leaning pretty bad lol

What are they doing with the old heads? Hope and a prayer they are reinstalled in another community out that way. That's a big coverage drop. They had something in the order of a 2 mile range in alert compared to the roughly 1.15 of the 2910.

They are auctioning them off to whoever desires a 4008 siren. So it’s quite possible some municipalities would want one.

If that's the case they'll be parted out for the drivers/rotators and thrown out unless another company in the area willing to refurbish them and sell them back. Since the replacements are going in as a one-to-one replacement the new 2910's will retain the prior controllers, which will be reconfigured in the software to take 10 amps instead of 8. The old heads would need new controllers. I doubt the companies would put up with the trouble of retrofitting them.

Yes, I saw them remove all the amps in the board. I actually have a full video of the control set up.

Plano has been planning this for some time now. Looks like they're finally going thru with it 100%

Well that's quite a downgrade.
I have an unhealthy obsession with mini sirens.
