Let's backpedal a little bit, back to August. I called the city of Gainesville asking if they're testing their siren system. They said they are not testing due to malfunction and the city is waiting for the council to make a decision.

So now to today. I called again, and they replied saying that they will be abandoning their sirens within the next few years. The 3-4 sirens that still work will be activated, but the rest will remain silent until the city council decides whether to remove them. I'm assuming the old T-135AC is one that is non-active.

Instead, the city is looking for new technology such as reverse 9-11 and CodeRed.

That's actually one of the three or four I would assume to be active.
The old thunderbolts are probably the dead ones, the 1000's been dead for years and the 1000T...well, it was only a matter of time before that thing took a dump.

I can confirm the T-135AC isn't active, it's actually completely disconnected as seen here, unless the wire for the siren was run elsewhere.

Hmmm.... I mean, I don't think they disconnected them, rather they abandoned them. That's interesting. They said they are debating whether they are totally going to remove those three non functioning sirens.

Do you remember if there was a power meter on that pole by any chance?

It’s not disconnected, the wiring is run thru the bottom plate into the pole.

That's what I was thinking. I still have a very strong feeling the only ones that work are the -130s.

Yeah after I posted that I started looking at other videos of the siren and noticed the same thing.

Major bump, but after emailing the fire chief, the city decided to bring the system back online! That includes the T-135 and I'm guessing the Thunderbolt?! The city still tests on the first Monday at 1:30

Amazing what a close call will do... There are a few cities in West Texas that have taken a direct slap over the last 8 weeks that I think are a lot closer to again having sirens. Littlefield finally figured out their problem and have 5 508's now.

Both San Angelo and Abilene have been hit by tornadoes in the last couple weeks. We will see if anything changes. Gainesville made a really stupid decision to abandon their system, but glad to see it’s back in service. Their testing is always finicky...they cancel if a mosquito farts.
