Hesitant to dig up a month-old thread...but I found a siren that possibly qualifies for this challenge.

Image
For the longest time, I thought that large round feature on top of the water tower in Center Point, Iowa was an air vent of some type...

Image
Nope, it's a Federal SD-10! Yes, it's mounted all the way to the top of the water tower, easily 150 feet up or more.

Image
It looks so small mounted waaaaaay up there. This is about as close as I could get before the siren disappears behind the curvature of the water tank.

Does that Chrysler still exist?

Yes, one still exists. It's named "Big Red". I forgot where it was though, I'd have to look it up.

And also, the last time I checked, I believe that Chrysler is still standing. But I think it's too old for operation...

Can't be too old. There's a Decot dating back from 1922 that's still operating in Wisconsin. The Chrysler probably needs a new motor, though. That part can get worn out over time.

Wow, that is ridiculously high. Good thing the SD-10's are designed to project most of the sound downwards. Otherwise it would be warning the next three counties over.

Wow, that is an interesting set up! (Water Tower pic)
If it was to break down, it would be hard to fix it, or even do maintmece on it.

Must have been fun mounting it.

I'd remove that middle wide band to see if it would speak out further.

That middle band actually amplifies the sound by directing it to the angled parts, and also resonates inside the siren.

This one is pretty high up on a mountain. It no longer sounds though: talked to CD about it and it's inactive status. It quietly overlooks the Honolulu skyline.
