ACA Quadren found in Thailand

Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:35 am

I just stumbled across a single cell ACA Quadren... in Thailand. Here's a video of it going off in Alert, and a streetview link for those who want to look at it. Probably due to be replaced soon.

Now THAT is quite the discovery. It's been known that ASC installed many E-Classes in Thailand, but never documented there was a Quadren! ASC must have been there longer.

Also, I'm pretty sure that is a double cell. You posted this picture a little while ago:

Is anyone making a Thailand siren map? Because if so I'd like to see it.
I'm always curious what other countries have.

So far, here are some Asian siren systems:
Thailand - Various ASC sirens
Japan - Various Mechanical sirens (Toshiba, etc)
Singapore - Hörmann (or Hoermann) ECN
Malaysia - Telegrafia Pavian + Gibon, E2S A141
China - Various electronic and mechanical sirens, possibly Lion King
Taiwan - Inverted Cyclones slowly being replaced by Hörmanns
Kuwait - Mods and Hörmanns, replaced Thunderbolts and whatnot
I think the Phillippines has a system but I can't be sure

Japan has a bunch of mechanical sirens. The electronic things are called Bosai Musen, and they're not the only electronic siren in Japan. I have a bunch of Youtube videos saved I can PM you.

That's very cool! I thought it was just Hormann's. I can't find much in YT

Also, I'm pretty sure that is a double cell. You posted this picture a little while ago:
It's a single cell unit. The Quadren's original design housed all of the drivers in the center cell of the siren, and the sound would be split and feed to the upper and lower portions of the siren. The top and bottom cells were dummy cells like the bottom cell of the I-Force and Modulator. As an Alertronic series siren it only came in a 1600, 3200, or 4800 watt configuration, but later iterations of it had a change in the design to give it an addon cell that would only feed the sound downward and allowed for the siren to take on an 800 and 2400 watt form. This version that combines the center and top feeding active cells was the first generation of the I-Force series. The second-generation units ditched the center feeding 1600 watt cells for the modified 800 watt top feeding design and mushed it down to make the unit that we are more familiar with today. The third generation that they sell currently had some modifications to the siren's shell to apparently make them easier to manufacture. Most of those changes seem to be cosmetic with maybe a few structural changes.

I think the reason these were so rare was due to ASC advertising the AL series over it and probably due to the cost of the siren. If you use the Wayback Machine they have an image of the STi-1600 on their website, but they never listed the specs of the siren. That also seems to be a factor as to why, at least up until a few years ago, the E-Class outpaced the I-Force in installations.

As far as Thailand goes Phuket has a system of ASC E-Class EC-4s and EC-8s with at least one SiRcom SiBT-2250 on ASC controls. They also have a Kockum Sonics Typhonic Delta-6, although I think it was owned by the hotel it's mounted to and not part of the regional system. They are used as tsunami sirens.
