AR & AF Timer Acronyms

Tue Aug 10, 2021 11:55 am

Hi all,

Just curious what AR and AF timers stand for, I have a feeling the F in AF stands for fire, as it’s the main feature of it.

Thanks.

You are correct! AR stands for “Air Raid” as it has both the Alert (Steady) and Attack (Wail) functions. AF stands for “Air Raid and Fire” and has the Alert and Attack signal functions, as well as a Fire signal function, which I believe can be Hi-Lo, Alternate Wail, or Fast Wail. Correct me if I’m wrong though!

Thanks for that Josh, I can't believe I didn't know that, been in the hobby 9 years and still don't know some of the most basic things.

You’re welcome! Haha! Well, you learn something new everyday I guess! I don’t know everything about sirens, but I have learned a lot from this site and YouTube! I’ve been into sirens for about 11 years (maybe more) and I’m still learning!
