Whelen's "Gas Proof Protection" Signal...i might r

Just west of me in Manhattan, Kansas there is the risk of a Earthquake with a magnitude of over 5.0..enough to break the dam of a nearby lake called "Tuttle Creek Lake" Now while work is being done to streighthin the damn, 6 Whelen 2809's have been placed in portions of the City of Manhattan, Rural Riley and Pottowatomie County. Go here for more infomation Anyways the signal for a emergency within the dam is Whelen's "Gas Proof Protection" signal...to hear it Go here and click on Siren Sound Samples and click on the second from the last little circle button and click play...make sure it says "Gas Proof Protection" Anyways they test the sirens every monday at 10:20am...they do 10secs of Alert, Attack, and the Gas Proof Protection Signal..also voice anouncments saying it is a test...my question is do you think it is worth getting up around 8:30....and spending around 15$ to go there and video one of the sirens? If so i am considering going to Manhattan this comming June and videoing it...what do you think?

Yeah, I say to go with it, too. Fifteen bucks isn't that much to pay when confronting something this exciting.

That would definitely be interesting and further the community's library of siren recordings with offering a new sound. I for one have only heard the Hi-Lo, Whoop, and Air Horn (once when a computer chip went bad). I'm sure very few people in the siren community haven't heard this tone before. It would definitely be interesting to hear as a recording.

I dont think i have heard it called "Gas proof" signal before. That Signal is the same Signal that Clarksville, TN uses for Flooding. . Im with everybody else, go record it!

The recording on the website that he mentioned is very interesting, it's like a backwards loop.

Whelen has the alternate set tones (mostly used on the other side of the world like Denmark ect) but they sound kooky to me PS I love this new message board

OK, here's a question...

Does anyone know why Whelen chose the name "Gas Proof" for this signal?

Does it mean "Gas proof your house?" when this signal is activated, as in some kind of chemical spill or chemical terrorism? I'd be interested to know. It's a rather unique name for a sound.
