Hey all,

I have sit directly across from this one and it is LOUD.

It replaced a 3016 that was hit by lightning. It's the only one in Tulsa or metro area I have ever seen.

Awesome. :D

Out of curiosity, have you seen any other Whelens in the Tulsa area besides WS 3016's? I've seen two WS 3016's going down Interstate 44, and an OmniAlert A04 in Oakhurst. They mentioned in another article that they have some 80 sirens and they're wanting to replace 60 of their "older" ones over the next three years.

Also, do you know when they use the High/Low signal for Flooding? Do they sound it for every Flash Flood/Flood Warning or is it rather rare for them to use it?

Edit: Found this news article:

Tulsa, OK is already updating their system and replacing the WS 3016's with new Vortex's.

How rare are the 4008's? Here in new hampshire and massachusetts we have about 30 of them not including a ton of 3016's with the seabrook nuclear plant.

Well, they're much rarer than a WS 3016, I'd think. As the WPS 4008 was discontinued due to poor sales. Practically all of the cities in Northeastern Oklahoma that are using Whelen sirens are using Vortexes (while I have seen an OmniAlert A04 in Oakhurst). Tulsa is the only one, so far, that I've seen using WS 3016's. So they're system must be considerably older and that's probably why they're replacing their WS 3016's with Vortex's.

Come to think of it, Owasso doesn't use Whelen's. If I remember right, they're using ATI sirens. *shudders*

I've seen two 4008's. They're awesome. Whelen should bring them back with more updates and get a bit more than 130 db outta them.

And btw; the 4004 & Vortex R4 have a 70 db rating at 6000'.
If it ain't made in America it shouldn't be here!

UPDATE: 9/8/08 - The 4008's now gone. I drove by the location on the way to a friend's house this past weekend and didn't see it behind the school. I wonder if they have moved it closer to "Shopageddon" along 71st street.

I'll check around the next I have some free time and I am out by the mall to find it.

Also - I found the other WPS-29XX that has been set up here. It's on TU's campus, near the University United Methodist Church.

I saw the TU siren on YouTube, and it was either an OA4 or a WPS-2904. Very loud, low toned siren.
