EOWS...

How many different models of the EOWS sirens were made, and when were these made?

There were, as far as I know, 6 different EOWS Models

The first batch, in the early to mid 80's, came in the form of these four:

EOWS 408, EOWS 812 (816?), EOWS 115, and EOWS M*12

The EOWS M*12 was a large speaker array to be mounted on a police car to be used for mass notification. Needless to say, I don't think these were hot sellers.

http://www.jmarcoz.com/sirens/sc4.pdf (the dB ratings in this catalog are badly inflated, IMO).

After that, in the mid-1980s, the EOWS 1212 replaced the EOWS 115 (exact same siren as the EOWS 115 but with the same time of speaker design as the rotating EOWS models), while the EOWS 612 consolidated the EOWS 408 and 812 into one model.

In the early 1990's, the EOWS 1212 was phased out in favor of the much more customizable Modulator while in the mid 1990s, the EOWS 612 became a special order only unit that Federal did not advertise (though it popped back up in advertising literature in the early 2000s when Federal Signal Industrial popped up--it since has vanished from their website).

Thanks for all the info :)

The M*12 is funny. I can definitely see why it wasn't a big seller - it took up the whole roof

I never realized how big those 612s were either. It's amazing how large those sirens really are once you see them in person.

The EOWS M*12 appear to be an electronic version of this:

It will probably sound like what ever tone card it has in it (Siratone/UV/Whelen/ASC/etc.).

Just to say, I've seen an online schematic for the EOWS*812. It shows that the top and bottom rows of horns have one driver in it, and that the two center rows of horns have 2 drivers in each horn. This adds up to a total of 12 drivers. I would imagine that it would sound about as loud as a 612 does. Sorry if I'm bumping this age old post. Don't quote me though. I have no idea how true that schematic is.

Just to say, the last post was in 2013 and we are way more informed than we were then. Look at the wiki page here: https://wiki.airraidsirens.net/EOWS_Series
