Eden Prairie, MN Modulator 5020

Mon Aug 30, 2021 1:37 am

Eden Prairie has an interesting and fuzzy siren history. I know of a few red Allertors, and a red P-15 that were recently replaced, and a few 2001-SRNBs that have been around as long as I can remember. My question is regarding the history of the Modulator 5020 atop the Southwest Transit ramp. Why is there specifically a modulator there, as opposed to a 2001 like the rest of the system, and what did it replace? Thanks in advance!

My friend (YT is Minnesnowta Tornado Sirens) told me it replaced either an Allertor or PN-20/RM-130. I don't know why it's there, but i'm willing to talk about it and/or more sirens in the area!

The red "P-15" was actually an experimental design that ACA called the "Performance Plus Penetrator". It was one of the earliest DC powered mechanical sirens. This design would later be refined into what we now know as the PN-20 (later as the RM-130), which is another siren type that Eden Praire had.

Yeah, the Perf+ was off of Flying Cloud Dr. and it was replaced by a 2001-130 along with almost all of the other old sirens in Eden Prairie. There was a PN-20 off of Technology Dr. and it was very close to 494. I believe that the PN-20 went to a place called "The Geek Group." The PN-20 was replaced by a 2001-SRNB in the 2000s.

Ooh okay, so the PN-20 was the one that was on top of that little utility building near 494. I found a red siren there via the GIS satellite imagery, and wasn't sure what model that one was. Never knew there was a Perf+ in EP, thanks for the info!

Street view had a goodish picture of it when I had a look. Here's the cropped screenshot
