Re: Indonesian/Australian mystery siren

Here is a map i've made, and some of the locations have videos and articles linked under them. If you have any locations to add to the map, please post them either here, or on the map's topic. Please keep all other info here.

In other news, I have found multiple articles that claim the sirens were put up in the 40's, under Dutch rule. This suggests they came from a Dutch manufacturer. Wouldn't surprise me considering there are a number of other sirens in the region that are foreign.

I also discovered another system of these weird sirens, in Malang, which may or may not still be up. I've only been able to find one siren, which is gone in streetview, but newer articles suggests it's been put back up.

As far as I know, most of the sirens in Yogyakarta are still used for religious purposes.

And finally, here is another video of one of the rotating sirens, in Yogyakarta. This siren in particular is on top of Hotel Toegoe (on the map). This shows how directional they are.

UPDATE

Image
It may not be the best pic but we now know a little bit more about the boxes
I've also seen examples of this in India, most notably in the now decommissioned Mumbai system
Do you have any examples or pictures of this system?
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

Yes, this YouTube video of it going of somewhere in Mumbai

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5UEdYK24X4

EDIT: I translated the description of the video and here is what it says: "The sound of Plengkung Ghanding's echo, The sound of "nggung" is used by many radio stations in Yogyakarta as a sign of breaking the fast before the Maghrib call to prayer is echoed. Indies colonialism - The Netherlands, Japan, and the Yogyakarta Palace."

With this we can also come to terms with there possibly being examples of this siren in Japan, and the Netherlands.

sorry for the bump but I have an update!

the sirens were installed in the 1930s by the "Lucht Beschering Dienst" which is Dutch for Air Protection Services, which proves that they are from a Dutch siren manufacturer like Synther said. Also apparently one of them caught fire due to a build up of bird nests in the 60s or 70s, it was then repaired in 2012. they are sounded on March 1st for independence day, August 17th for Heroes day, and December 10th before fasting. They also seem very proud of the sirens and try their best to keep them in the best of conditions.

and I got all of that from this article

small notice but I found out that these were also placed in the Netherlands but they all have most likely been replaced with the mods that they have now. also they were reactivated during the cold war and used for air attacks and calling in volunteer fire fighters

anyways here is an image of a rotational unit on some building presumably in the Netherlands

What kind of control box is that?! Looks like a starter lazily suspended by wires and what looks like a button in the corner.
Anyway, very nice topic with awesome info! Great work!

Looks like a standard issue tripolar breaker, I wonder where the motor starter and relay bits are.

Found this interesting image, its of Plengkung Gading but it the siren seems to be some other unit. Not sure if its these "gauk" things or an entirely different siren, but I thought yall would find it interesting
