Motorola Siren?

Thu Mar 10, 2011 1:05 am

There seem to be a few of these little deplorable excuses of a siren around the Panhandle. This is the first time I have ever seen one in real life, aside from streetview. I can't imagine that this thing is very loud, as tiny as the speakers are. Ben [kdksiren] said that the city of Hereford, TX used to have a very large system of electronic Motorola Sirens, so I am wondering if this might be one of them? Any ideas?

The control box looks different, but the speakers (what's left) looks like the old system in Hereford looked like. Good find! Now if it works, would love to get a vid of it. There were some 30+ of those things for a few years. Malfuntions all the time. Sound would not travel more that a few blocks. If memory serves me correctly, the city sued them and got enough money for the Cyclones that are there now. It all worked out good in the end. Thanks Travis!

Well they moved the siren across the street from where it is on streetview. Here is the old control box, and what looks like 4 speakers and not 3. I bet a drunk driver ran his truck into it or something.

Yes, the one in the picture looks like it's missing a speaker. And that control box does not look original.
It seems likely that either a tornado or high winds turned it into a toothpick, or some maniac drove into the pole and knocked it over.

I think it's just the angle. A somewhat neat-looking siren, not gonna lie. However, it looks like something you'd find on a PA system rather than an outdoor warning siren.

It may actually just be the angle, but if you take a look at the bottom most picture, you can see that the 3 drivers arrange in such a way that it looks like a 4th driver could have been there.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the drivers within the cones themselves.

Perhaps I should have said "missing a speaker"? Fixed.

These things are worse than ATI's. Motorola may make good two way radios, but their sirens are horrible!

You resurrected a thread from 2011...do you have anything to contribute about the information of these sirens?
