The rotor retaining nut on older Federal Q sirens had a left hand thread.

OK, everyone...

The thread issue HAS been sorted!

After being laughed at by "suppliers" after mentioning BSF, I have found a brilliant little company called "L&S Engineers" who do 7/8 BSF in BOTH LEFT and RIGHT hand threads in the form of wheelnuts.

I've just had to hack them down to "full nut" and "lock nut" depths respectively but they do fit, and the siren is now back together- just needs wiring...

Mr Wisbey, you may recognise me as "djoska87" from YouTube...
Do YOU own a Castle Castings siren too?

Shame you let it go...
You wanna get hold of a Castle siren- I wont be getting rid of mine any time soon!

I just need to re-wire my Castles to their respective 3-phase plugs, which I now have but I have no idea on wiring with 3 lives and 1 earth...

Dan,
I would say that your old siren IS of Castle Castings heritage...

Castle Castings sirens have Brooks motors (Brooks-Crompton-Parkinson part of Hawker-Siddley) and your example has a rather early Brooks design almost resembling the old Gents motors of the 1940s.

The rotor and stator castings are almost definitly Castle Castings designs-

The rotors feature curved vanes, a conical centre around a single key-way, and have exactly the same type of balancing circles cut into the back as my 2 sirens.

The stators also have 8 equally-spaced bolt holes at each end- same as my sirens, as well as 4 bolts to mount them to the motor. (Shame about the crack in yours!)

By the way, my second Castle Castings siren is undergoing it's restoration... this time it's going TURQUOISE (the original factory colour, sometimes seen on sirens in-situ)

Both sirens are now back together after being stripped/sandblasted and re-sprayed!
