Model 2-240 running 120?

Sun Dec 11, 2011 3:14 pm

So I have heard some things about under powering a siren.. If I were to run my siren at half voltage (120V) what damage could this do to it? I'm just debating on running 240 if I ever put it up somewhere.

Thanks!!

Running a 2-220 on 110 will not hurt it. I've ran my 2t on 110 many times, and it's still going strong over 10 years later. If it were a larger siren, anything past a very brief growl could fry the motor.

Thanks! It would keep the cost down if I used 110.. Its not like I'm using it everyday anyway.

The Model 2 uses a very forgiving motor. I believe it is a universal series. I remember a video some years ago of Adam Smith growling/revving up his Model 2 with a 12V battery. It wasn't full blast of course, but it was decent considering they're designed for AC power at higher voltages.

A Thunderbolt is a model 2-240 with a transformer so it can be run on a variety of voltages to vary the pitch. If there was a problem with running it on lower voltages a Thunderbolt wouldn't be set up that way.

So if I were to wire it on a pole for 110, I could use it with no worries at all?

Pretty well. Chopper setting 1 on a T-bolt RCM is 120V if I'm not mistaken.

Series Wound Motor will run on any voltage to it stated limit on AC or DC. 25HZ to 60HZ. IN fact it runs better on DC.
