Please put this in your letters to the editor in the forum section and on Cincinnat.com tomorrow if possible due to siren test day. Thank you
I am appalled by the lack of coverage by the media about the silence of the Hamilton County Siren system. During the tornado there was only 55% siren coverage of Hamilton County due to sheer stupidity. Last week an EMA spokesperson said there were only 15 sirens not working, however I provided positive proof in the form of an email from the manufacturer/installer to the media that affirmed the 55% coverage. In my opinion this equates to 60 or more sirens that have been decommissioned before the new sirens are installed and working. Each week the sirens are polled and monitored for operability and readiness. I asked for a copy of that report through the Freedom of Information Act of Public Records and I have been denied these reports from E.M.A. Hamilton County E.M.A. seems to be in way over their heads and even the county hired engineering firm also seems to be afraid of their county contract, to do the right thing.
This contract was awarded to a New Jersey firm for $300,000 more than the local firm. This means $150,000.00 in payroll, income, sales, and other taxes have left Hamilton County for the shores of New Jersey not to mention the loss of 20 to 30 jobs in Hamilton County.
The sirens are too close to the road for safety (county engineer), they did not get county permits, Electrical inspections are failing 3 to 1, sirens that are moved from their original position have not been studied for EPA impact, sirens have been decommissioned before new sirens are working, and the deadline was March 1st 2012 for completion, which would have been nice to hear a siren during a tornado warning. Weather the sirens work or not or E.M.A. is making false statements to the citizens no one seems to care or maybe it is just the political machine rolling over the media. I am sure I have been labeled a disgruntled worker, but only the truth will set me free and with this letter I will probably lose the maintenance and my dealership of ASC. I therefore will personally reward anyone $500.00 or more to uncover the truth about this bidding process, possible collusion with manufacturer and installer (owned by the same person); E.M.A?s handling of this bid with the media and citizens. The above article is my observations and opinions as an expert with our siren system for over 60 years. Call me I am in the book.
By the way Wednesday is siren test day and the silence of the sirens will be deafening.
Clayton Werden
Siren maintenance worker
Very well said Mr. Werden. I hope the media gets a hold of this and finds some answers, but I'm sure they won't.
Found one more siren that did not activate today and that was the Werden RM-127 siren on Cheviot City Hall. It appears to be facing in the same direction as it before today's test.
Saw two new sirens today as well, they may have already been mentioned, but here are the locations:
