Why the hell would anyone buy anything Wolo? The only reason I bought a Wolo product was because they were selling air horns at an equipment shop (it's becoming a national chain, Harbor Freight Tools) and I wanted one so badly to complement my (also crappy) StreetHawk amber lightbar.

These are with the amber colored cover off and all tho they look white but they glow amber. The video with the cover on didnt load right . Im thinking of selling this LED beacon and buying a LED light system that will strap to the sun shades on the truck or getting a Whelen liberty light br or an 26" strobe bar. But a job and college come first.

Knowing how extremely expensive LED light bars are, I asked Denver Water Department why they would purchase such for their vehicles.

Cheap flashing amber lights would work just as well.

No reply from the guy.
Guess I'll have to go higher.

Before super bright LEDs I actually spoke with someone about lasers years ago.
The problem then was getting the beam to spread enough without expensive optics.
Also I had proposed aiming laser diodes at a target which people would see.
Can't remember the answer to that idea.

A typical line generating diode laser has a very wide but extremely thin beam. If ten or so of these were arranged on a vertical, rotating plate and were oriented in a crisscross pattern or successive diagonal lines, it could be an effective signal, especially with a European-style 180 FPM rotor drive. When the price of blue diode lasers comes down, this would be even more effective given their increased brightness.

I could see something like that in the future, but let's all remember that "Firefighter Sues Federal Signal" post... someone would probably sue due to eye irritation from the lasers.

@loudmouth: How much did you pay for this thing? I thought it was one of those ones where you just have a vertical stick of LEDs rotated by a motor. Those are crappy. This one, however, looks good (sort of) on Rotate Mode, but crappy on everything else.

Has anyone considered making their own LED "light bars" using Stop/Turn/Tail LED lamps?

They are still bright but only a fraction of the cost of real LED light bars.

AutoZone sells 4" round and oval lamps in RED or YELLOW for $24 each.

Being clear plastic, they look nice with any color vehicle.
You don't know what color they will light until illuminated.

They have a black background inside which creates more contrast when the light is flashing.

Those Wolo beacons could be modified so several of them can be hooked up in parallel. It would require a new controller, though.
