Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station EPZ Siren Test

Sun Jul 28, 2013 12:27 am

I ran across this last night: http://n7twt.net/palo_verde_siren_test.html

A test of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station ten mile radius EPZ siren test on November 13, 2013. These sirens are located in Tonopah, Arizona just West of Phoenix. While this is a system of A.T.I. sirens, us Arozona enthusiasts and collectors don't get to here siren systems (or any outdoor warning sirens for that mater) too often. They test this system only once per year. There are 48 sirens in this system. If you are a HAM radio operator this gives you a chance to help as well.

Wow! There actually asking for volunteers to go out to sirens and make sure they work. What a neat opportunity. Yeah I can relate to being in Arizona and not hearing and seeing for that matter of any siren systems or individual sirens of any kind. When I took a out there this summer, I only saw one siren, a beat up Model 5 in Lone Pine CA (that probably didn't work). I was was very relieved when I came back to the Midwest with sirens all around me in different towns. If I was you and was able, I would definitely help out.

Watch them all fail, this should be good.

Directly related to the topic, I drove through Tonopah in 2010, never saw a single siren. Nonetheless, no sirens in Arizona at all.
