Tornado siren timer

Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:38 pm

I have a couple of what appears to be homemade siren timers that replaced the old siratrol units on nearby t-bolts. They have since been replaced by 2001s.

The homemade board also was equipped with a federal signal informer for the radio activation.

Has anyone ever come into contact with this setup (which was housed in a gray box with a nmo mount antenna) and if so, do you have a schematic? Any info would be grate!

Thanks!

Looks like both sets of relay contacts are wired in parallel to the left two terminals (protected by a MOV) of the strip. The right three terminals appear to be line, neutral and ground inputs. The transformer seems to supply low voltage to the relay coil, power resistor (green cylinder that says hot), and box on the left.

My guess is that the resistor combined with whatever is connected to the control knob provides some sort of timing signal to the relay when activated by a contact closure in the Federal receiver. Definitely home made.

Looks like a wire wound resistor underneath the "CAUTION HOT" sticker?

That looks to be a heater.

Hadn't thought of that, makes sense.

The knob on the left side might be a thermostat then?

Yeah, I guess I never thought of a heater being in there either! Whoever built this timer looks like they knew exactly what they were doing. Such a very sophisticated setup!

I've wanted an Informer for a while, they are awesome. That's a pretty neat setup there. I wish I could figure out how to build my own timer
