St. Peters, Mo. now has one less Thunderbeam

Tue Sep 24, 2013 10:30 am

I was out and about yesterday and noticed that the Thunderbeam on McMenamy Road behind the Barnes and Noble (close to Mid Rivers Mall) has been replaced by a 2001. I did some driving around, wondering if any of their other old sirens had been replaced, but the 2001 was the only new one. The two other Thunderbeams, the two 2T22s and the one T-Bolt 1000T were all still in place. So I guess the city only replaces sirens when needed.

I found out that the siren failed to activate for the July monthly test and it was determined that it was struck by lightning in a June thuderstorm. So that 2001 must've been installed in the last few weeks. Pretty good service from Federal to have a 2001 in stock to be delivered that soon. I don't think Whelen could've delivered a 2900 series siren that fast if needed.

I think that a 2001 was a good choice to replace a Thunderbeam. I say that because 2001s and Thunderbeams sound very similar to me.

St. Peters now has seven 2001s in place, at least that I know of. I say seven but the official City of St. Peters website states that they have a system of fourteen sirens, but I only know of twelve. So there may be two more 2001s that I don't know about. I've lived in this county for twenty two years, and used to reside in St. Peters, but I don't know where those other two sirens are located.

I was hoping that they would begin replacing their older sirens with 508s, but it appears that they like the 2001s.
