Columbus SD-10; Last CD siren?

Sun Sep 29, 2013 11:30 pm

Over the last few days I've been thinking about the sirens in/being installed in Upson Co. I started to think about the old CD siren system we had here in Columbus before we got the Whelens we have now. Eventually I got bored and asked my grandfather if he could drive me around the area so I could take pictures. Most of Columbus's older system has been taken down, but at least one still stands. Also there's a Model A or something like it on the chimney of St. Marys Academy. I'll have my video of the tour of the SD-10 in the Audio/Video Forum.

Where is this siren you may ask?

I don't know why this siren still stands? The college doesn't use it to my knowledge; it would be neat if I could go and take it down for a restoration. There is very little rust on the siren's covers. To anybody that knows the city, is there any more like this?

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to take the AR timer or any of the insides with the panel being open like that? I'd like the insides for myself, but I don't want to break any laws.

They probably just pulled the radio to deactivate it when the new system was installed. You could have knocked the dirt off the cover and put it back on with a piece of wire in the lock tab to keep it from coming back off.

I'll bet that the Model A on that school is a fire alarm. Catholic schools are usually very poor and can't afford to upgrade old fire alarm systems like public schools can.

Not to start an argument, but, I beg to differ. Anyways, I think it would be neat to see that SD-10 restored. :P
