Sterling found in Kalama, WA

Sun Mar 09, 2014 7:26 am

Today I was in the town of Kalama, along the Interstate 5 Corridor in Cowlitz county, Washington. I became puzzled when I stumbled upon a Sterling Siren directly along western Interstate 5, it is located at 250 West Frontage Road in the town of Kalama, and it could belong to the old decommissioned Trojan Nuclear Power Plant. Anyone have any insight on this baffling discovery? Such as who it belongs to? Or if it is active?

Here's some Google Earth Snapshots:

It looks like the power is cut to it, and it's the same shade of OD Green as the trojan sirens, so I'm 99.9% sure it's an Ex-Trojan siren.
Ripe old age of 26. I'm quite fond of alcohol and telephone relays.

That's interesting because I once spent an hour cruising around Kalama and the only thing I found was an STH-10 in the industrial area at the top of the photo, which I'm fairly sure has since been removed. I've never seen that Sterling before. Perhaps the town re-installed an old fire siren.

The STH-10 is still there last i checked. If the sterling was for the power plant than the city of Kalama owns it just like the rest of the sirens in that area. Longview owns the ones that are in Longview and Kalama owns the ones in Kalama. Now if it was an old fire siren that would be an interesting story. Either way the fact that an old sterling is there just down the way from the STH-10 is pretty cool!!!

The STH-10 is still there, along Hendrickson Drive in the far top of the photo. I passed it twice, and it's on a decently tall pole. There's also another STH-10 up on a hill in the far eastern part of Kalama.

Trust me, it was a pain finding that Sterling on Google Earth after passing it, i'm lucky I found it.

Did Sterlings come with straight-tube intakes at one point or was that just a simple garage mod?

I think they might have come with them. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Oh hey PugetSoundStormWatch? Do you remember those addresses of the sirens I sent you... Or I think I did... But if I remember those addresses correctly this sterling wasn't mentioned on there... What that means is it's most likely not part of the trojan system...

I do remember the addresses, the Sterling wasn't one of them. It still could've been part of the Trojan system, cause locations can sneak past your senses at any time. All the locations you gave me are included on a map, including a few more locations I found on accident, which were the STH-10's and a Model 5 up on a hill east of Kelso.

Did I have the addresses to Kelso as well? I don't remember those ones. But it was a while ago too so... You know...
