Re: Waldport, Oregon Discontinues Tsunami Sirens

Is that right? I know cape lookout had a model 2 and pacific city also had/has one on the fire station and... I don't know I think what happened was the whole county or... You know areas like the city of tillamook and rockaway beach installed them rather recently and then took them down after a short run. What leads me to believe that is the news stories that say they are just tired of using "A system that has been around since world war II. Plus the guy who repaired them retired and that's not good because these old things are just rotting and falling apart" blah blah blah blah blaaaah! Yea you know the story. At least though the removing of sirens is, to my knowledge, a small part of the oregon coast.

I've camped many times at Cape Lookout and haven't seen any sirens there, but that was up on top 500 feet above the beach. Pacific City had an old Model 3 with a flat top at the fire station that was replaced by a Model 5, and a completely rusted Model 2 further north. Oceanside has a stainless steel Sentry 10VH, Garibaldi has an STH-10, and there were a couple of Model 2's at beach areas west of Tillamook. The Tillamook Valley is prone to flooding, but I've never seen sirens there. Umatilla County's system of Whelens was removed and sent out there somewhere.

Yea I saw that STH-10. Yea that model 2 I am thinking of was in some area near the beach... They said they tested them at tuesday at 1 if i remember it right (Please remember this was a while ago.) Either way I think that oregon should get more sirens out there... I mean for how many trains portland has that carry hazards, for the flooding that happens, and I mean we have even gotten tornadoes in oregon! So I dunno... Just my opinion.
