Finally Got My Hands on a Model 5!!

Fri Apr 25, 2014 9:36 pm

I found this one on Craigslist! I managed to pick it up for $300! It came from a firehouse in Connecticut. It's made by Federal Electric. The model is RV37X. I'm not sure of the year. I haven't tried it yet but the guy I bought if from says it works. The rotor spins freely. The windings look like they're in good condition. I'm definitely going to restore it. I'm thinking of painting it CD Yellow. I never saw one up close, they're so much bigger than my Model 2s!!!

Holy crap, it's single phase too. I wonder if this motor is the type that doesn't mind 120 volt growls. Jeb could probably tell you more about that motor and if some 120 volt growls are safe to do.

Looks like an ancient heavy rotor model. It should have a nice, slow windup and wind down.

Great buy! CD yellow is always a good choice.
